More Than an Award

What It Means to Be Named to the 40 Under 40 List.

There are moments in life that remind us why we push forward, why we lead, and why we commit ourselves to change. Being named to the 2025 Black Business Ink - 40 Under 40 Most Influential African Americans in the Triad is one of those moments for me—a recognition that is both humbling and affirming.

More Than an Award—A Responsibility

This recognition is not just about personal achievement; it’s about the responsibility that comes with it. Leadership isn’t just about accolades—it’s about impact. It’s about mentorship, advocacy, and paving the way for those who come next. Being named to this list is a testament to the work I’ve been committed to: advancing leadership, education, and equity in meaningful ways.

Throughout my journey, I’ve learned that authentic leadership requires courage—courage to speak up, to challenge systems, and to create space for others to thrive. As I reflect on this honor, I see it as a reminder that leadership is not a solo endeavor. It is a collective effort that demands collaboration, service, and an unwavering commitment to progress.

The Work Continues

This honor is a milestone, but it is not the destination. There is still much to be done. Whether it’s through my research, my work in institutional advancement, or my commitment to fostering spaces where diverse voices are heard and valued, I remain dedicated to moving the needle forward.

Recognition like this serves as a powerful reminder that leadership is an ongoing process of growth, learning, and service. It challenges me to continue seeking opportunities to drive meaningful change, to invest in the next generation of leaders, and to use my platform to amplify voices that often go unheard. It means showing up with intention, staying engaged in critical conversations, and ensuring that my work contributes to a more equitable and inclusive future.

True leadership is not about individual success but about the legacy we create. It is measured by the impact we have on others, the bridges we build, and the systems we improve. As I step into this moment of recognition, I do so with a renewed commitment to keep pushing forward—to mentor, to advocate, and to challenge the status quo in meaningful ways.

As we navigate today’s challenges, I encourage all of us to remember that leadership is not about position—it’s about purpose. It’s about the everyday choices we make to show up, to uplift, and to inspire. There is still much to be done. Whether it’s through my research, my work in institutional advancement, or my commitment to fostering spaces where diverse voices are heard and valued, I remain dedicated to moving the needle forward.
